Born in the city of Dordrecht, Holland, in December 1954.
First musical experience singing in the church choir at age 6.
Bluesharp and vocals in schoolbands.
Picks up the saxophone in 1972, private lessons with Ferry van Aesch and Barend Petersen. Moves to Groningen in 1978, joining the groups of Alan Laurillard and Gerard Ammerlaan. Starts to study classical saxophone at the Gemeentelijk Conservatorium Groningen with Adri van Velsen.
Plays in Noodband, Artisnt, TamTamFanfare, Baritone Madness, Gerard Ammerlaan Orchestra, his own quintet All Ears and many more Groningen based groups.
Switches to the Improvising Musician study at the Sweelinck Conservatorium in Amsterdam, to study with Paul Stocker.
Works as composer and musical director of theatre company Werk in Uitvoering.
Moves to Haarlem in 1988. Works with Amsterdam based groups Contraband and Astronotes, saxophone groups The Six Winds (with a.o. John Tchicai) and Stratos, and Michiel Braam's Bik Bent Braam.
Starts to teach improvisation at the Conservatorium of Arnhem in 1995, from 2004 also saxophone.
Joined the Willem Breuker Kollektief in 2006.
Most important working band is Talking Cows, with (co-leader) Robert Jan Vermeulen (p), Dion Nijland (b) and Yonga Sun (drs). The band recorded three albums, all on Morvin Records, the last one (Almost Human) iin cooperation with the German label Jazzsick.
Moves to Friesland in December 1997, still living there now.
Leads workshops and amateur bands all over the Netherlands.
Artistic director, arranger and director of the Fries Project Orkest.
